2008 Blues Music Awards: Boston's Mudcat Ward nominated for bass player of the year more…

Michael “Mudcat” Ward has been a fixture on the Boston blues scene for years - from the house band at the old Speakeasy in Cambridge, to Sugar Ray and the Bluetones and Ronnie Earl, to just about every big name that has come to town. (We are hard pressed to think of a band he has not played with or sat in with.)

Ward has also been on more than 50 albums and compilations.

The blues awards, given by The Blues Foundation, a non-profit organization of which the Boston Blues Society is an affiliate, are chosen by ballot in advance by foundation members.

The ceremony will take place May 8 at the Tunica resorts in Tunica, Miss. The North Mississippi Delta locale is a change of venue from the usual Memphis, but not too far away. The Delta is, after all, the birthplace of the blues.

Visit the new Boston Blues Society Store at Amazon.com more…

We are delighted to offer blues fans a chance to easily buy CDs, DVDs and books we have reviewed – along with anything else Amazon offers.

In fact, simply clicking the link to Amazon, at the top of any of our webpages, will help the society’s efforts to keep the blues alive in Beantown.

Because we no longer charge membership fees, visiting the store, or buying from our link, along with donations to the society, are our main source of funding. We are nonprofit and run completely by volunteers.

Once you’re in our “store” you can take a look at our favorites, read our reviews, and see what’s new in blues. Check it out!

Feature Articles and Reviews

Features: Remembering Mai Cramer with a stellar show featuring born-again Chicago bluesman Jody Williams.

Reviews: This month’s reviews include Raisin’ A Ruckus, the new CD from our own Roomful of Blues; Hard Pill to Swallow from Bill Lupkin, Train Rolls On by the rockin’ Mississippi Mudsharks, Iron Man from Michael Burk, and a great debut album by Texas bluesman Albert Storo.

The Boston Blues Society seeks volunteers to write feature stories and CD reviews for our monthly e-zine. Experience is helpful, but not required. If interested, email editor@bostonblues.com
